WestJet has announced a significant expansion of its popular non-stop service connecting Calgary International Airport (YYC) and Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT).

Starting October 27, 2025, as the winter schedule begins, this vital route will operate daily, year-round.

This increase in frequency builds upon the airline’s earlier decision to offer daily flights for the 2025 summer season, demonstrating the strong and sustained demand for travel between these two key destinations.

WestJet attributes the continued success of this trans-Pacific route to robust passenger numbers on both sides of the ocean.

This expansion underscores the airline’s commitment to strengthening Calgary’s role as a crucial gateway for international travel, particularly to Asia.

John Weatherill, WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer commented on the planned frequency increase. “Leveraging the advanced capabilities of our Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, WestJet is dedicated to enhancing Calgary’s tourism sector through expanded Trans-Pacific services.”

“Today’s announcement of daily year-round flights between Calgary and Tokyo further solidifies our commitment to providing Canadians with greater access to the vibrant cultures and economies of Asia.”

Enhanced Japanese Connectivity via JAL Partnership

In addition to the increased flight frequency, WestJet’s long-standing codeshare agreement with Japan Airlines (JAL) will now offer even more seamless travel options for passengers arriving in Tokyo.

Travelers connecting through Narita will gain convenient access to two new Japanese cities: Osaka (Itami Airport) and Nagoya.

This expanded codeshare allows guests to book a single ticket through WestJet for their entire journey, including baggage transfers.

Furthermore, passengers can continue to earn valuable WestJet Dollars on these connecting flights, making exploring these unique Japanese destinations both convenient and rewarding.

“These new connection options, facilitated by our strong partnership with Japan Airlines, significantly broaden WestJet’s global codeshare network,” added Weatherill.

“This will open up exciting possibilities for our guests seeking convenient and affordable ways to experience the diverse attractions of popular destinations across Japan.”

This strategic expansion by WestJet not only provides more travel options for individuals and businesses but also strengthens the economic ties between Western Canada and Japan.

By offering daily year-round service and enhanced connectivity, WestJet is making it easier than ever to bridge the distance between Calgary and Tokyo.
